During the past century, the Indiana University School of Medicine has been the training ground for future physicians. Their careers have taken them to distant lands such as Kenya; some have returned to their hometowns to establish private practices. As you read the following pages, it will become clear to you that our school offers its students stellar challenges and opportunities.

You will discover the challenges of our basic science courses and competency-based curriculum. You will learn about opportunities for post-graduate science programs to consider while pursuing a degree in medicine. You will be introduced to a few of our most enthusiastic teachers and innovative researchers and meet students who will tell you that the life of a medical student is more than just lectures and laboratories. Please peruse these pages to familiarize yourself with the Indiana University School of Medicine. Having just celebrated our first 100 years of educating physicians, we are proud of our past contributions and the strength our institution brings to the field of medicine.

As the only medical school in Indiana and the second largest medical school in the country, we have created programs and facilities that serve a broad spectrum of student and faculty interests and needs. Our educational program is hosted on nine campuses throughout Indiana; it boasts an innovative, competency-based curriculum, new facilities for patient care, research, and education on many of our campuses, and nationally funded and recognized research programs.

Our students, residents, fellows, faculty and staff members are members of a team, working to create a professional environment that values its members and the patients and communities it serves.
